Mauve Grove is an alternative hip-hop and jazz-funk band from Toronto. They blend genres into a sound that feels dense and full of ideas. In 2021, they reached out to me to create cover art for two new singles headed to Spotify: Say Her Name and Creepy Crawlies.
They gave me full creative freedom on both covers. I brought my cartoony style into each one while staying true to the concepts they had in mind.
CREEPY CRAWLIES
They wanted a Goosebumps and Stephen King mashup, something familiar but unsettling. I built the concept around Arachnophobia: giant radioactive spiders closing in on their prey in a dark forest.
The piece is digital, built over two weeks. Dark, desaturated tones contrast with one bright radioactive green, pulling the eye straight to the danger. The main character sits dead center, surrounded
on every side. No exit.
The result gave the band nostalgic horror with a modern edge, built for an audience that grew up on those references
